Words From The Garden

At the Pratt Dye Garden we seek to bring attention to natural dye processes particularly those rooted in Native American traditions that we have learned from, adapted and changed. Through doing so, we hope to cultivate a community and bring awareness to the many possibilities for collaboration with the natural world and the role it can play in art and design. This pamphlet is a collection of history, symbolism and poetry, providing a small window, through which to look, and begin to discover the magic of these plants that throughout history have been used for dyes, medicine, as a gesture of love or portrait of prosperity. We hope everyone appreciates the Pratt Textile Dye Garden as much as we do!
